Marketers are the crucial link between an organization and its customers/end-users and suppliers, building relationships that benefit all parties. Consequently, marketing is rooted in a strong understanding of the customer, whether an individual or an organization. Identifying consumer needs, developing new products/services or communications strategies, ensuring products and services are available where and when consumers want them, determining prices, and having the ability to adjust all of these for domestic and international markets for different cultures — that’s the job of a marketer. If you are creative, practical, like both people and numbers, show strong analytical abilities and have excellent communications skills (including listening), one of the many available careers in marketing may interest you. While different types of marketing jobs require different skill sets, marketers need to communicate effectively, work independently, be self-motivated and willing to show initiative. Almost one-third of North Americans are employed in marketing or marketing-related positions. Marketing’s role within organizations is becoming increasingly important, and marketing professionals hold crucial positions.
